A lever used to control engine speed was in the wrong position when a Brazilian plane crashed last month and likely was a major cause of the country’s worst air accident, according to flight recorder transcripts published by a newspaper on Wednesday. An Airbus A320 operated by Brazilian carrier TAM Linhas Aereas barrelled off the runway upon landing at Congonhas airport in Sao Paulo on July 17, crashed into a cargo terminal and burst into flames. All 187 people aboard and at least 12 more on the ground were killed. Data from the flight recorder suggests that the thrust lever for one of the turbines was in “accelerate” position, Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper reported.

A couple from Chicago was found guilty of allowing underage drinking in their home on the night when two teens died in a car accident near their home. The jury found the couple, Jeffrey and Sara Hutsell, guilty of endangering the lives of children and of obstructing justice because they lied to police officers on the night of the car crash.

Apparently, the parents let their 18 year old son and friends have a party in their basement with beer and rum. The two teens who attended the party, both 18 year old, died in a car crash later that evening near the Hutsell’s house.
