Yasmin and Yaz Drug Litigation
Yasmin and Yaz are popular birth control pills manufactured by Bayer. Clinical studies have revealed that Yasmin and Yaz cause a higher rate of blood clot injury than other oral contraceptives.
Hundreds of product liability lawsuits have been filed against Bayer alleging that the drug is dangerous and defective and has caused serious injury to women. Deep vein thrombosis (blood clot in the legs), pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lungs), heart attack, stroke, and death have been linked to the drugs. Other injuries noted to be caused by the drugs include pancreatitis, kidney failure, gall bladder disease, weight gain, panic attacks, depression and headaches. According to University of Copenhagen studies, the source or cause of these injuries rest is Drospirenone. Drospirenone is a fourth generation, synthetic progestin. It is not found in other birth control medication. The chemical is unique to Yaz, Yasmin and their generic equivalent Ocella. The product liability lawsuits that have been filed against Bayer allege that the drospirenone increases potassium levels and by doing so disrupt hearth rhythms or slow down blood flow causing the formation of blood clots.
To date, approximately 50 deaths have been linked to the drug. In those cases, elevated levels of potassium in the blood were frequently reported. Our law firm has been retained by women seriously injured by this drug.
